THE SAND STORY

Founded in 1981 by Søren and Lene Sand, SAND Copenhagen was born from a desire to unite the best of both worlds: the simplicity of Scandinavian design and the soul of Southern European craftsmanship.
With an eye for detail, a passion for tailoring, and a deep respect for timeless style, they built one of Denmark’s most iconic fashion houses. SAND is more than a brand – it’s a creative universe where elegance, quality, and longevity are woven into every piece.

CRAFTED WITH CARE

Our design studio is located in the heart of Como, Italy – a region famed for its silk heritage and textile artistry. Overlooking the lake, this inspiring setting allows us to work closely with local weavers, printers, and artisans to create fabrics found nowhere else.
Most of our garments are produced in Italy and Portugal, ensuring proximity to our partners, transparency in every step, and true European craftsmanship in every thread. Overlooking the Lake Como because we believe that the beauty of the surroundings influences the design process in a positive way. Here, we can combine the two worlds that make SAND Copenhagen outstanding: The modest Scandinavian style and the ever-inspiring Italian passion.

RESPONSIBILITY AT HEART

As a family-owned company, we care deeply about how we work and who we work with. All our suppliers are ISO-certified and aligned with our strict code of conduct.
We focus on designing pieces that transcend seasons – made to be worn, loved, and passed on. From fabric sourcing to production methods, we continuously strive to reduce our environmental footprint and contribute to a more thoughtful fashion industry.  In the design process we aim to create shapes, colors, and prints that work well for more than a season and can transcend seasons and trends, also to prolong the lifespan of each item. You can even upcycle or redo the items to further reduce you impact on the environment. In all steps of the process from design idea to item we aim to use less of the natural resources and make smart solutions to reduce the environmental footprint. Being responsible lies deep in our DNA. We strive to provide our customers with only the finest garments, and to do so, we operate exclusively with partners and suppliers of the highest standard, many of whom we have worked with for a long time. Growing and developing together over time makes our relationships strong and our production transparent.

FABRICS YOU CAN FEEL

You can feel the difference. We partner with some of Italy’s finest fabric makers – many of whom we’ve worked with for decades. These long-term relationships allow us to source luxurious textiles with superior flow, softness, and durability.
Produced locally and in limited volumes, our fabrics reflect a commitment to quality over quantity – because true beauty is felt, not just seen. Production to countries with significantly cheaper labor and non-transparent production facilities. By sustaining the textile industry, we sustain the workers and their families in rural areas where labor can be hard to find, and we also keep the craftsmanship and knowledge passed on from generation to generation, alive.

THE LEGACY CONTINUES

From legendary names like Helmut Newton, Nadja Auermann and Jerry Hall to today’s international influencers such as Emili Sindlev, Aloe Blacc and Darja Barannik – SAND Copenhagen has always been worn by those with a distinctive sense of style.
More than four decades later, the legacy of Søren and Lene lives on – in every silhouette, every stitch, every story told through fabric.because they are among the best in the world: The hand, the flow, the surfaces, the colors. Yes, they are more expensive, but they are also produced close to the factories that make them into garments and so we don’t need to fly fabrics around the world but can produce everything locally. This saves on emissions and energy, but it also enables us to work with the same suppliers year after year, many of the them family-owned business like ours. There’s nothing more amazing than to visit the weavers and printers and explore their old archives of colors and patterns, this is the phase we treasure the most, this is where the heart beats a little faster. And this could not be done anywhere else in the world but in North Italy.
