From legendary photographer Helmut Newton over top model Nadja Auermann to Instagram star Josephine HJ, SAND Copenhagen has always worked with the greatest fashion icons of their generation.

Over the years our design has been worn by top models such as Jerry Hall, Sophie Dahl, Alek Wek, Frankie Raydar, Louise P, Matt Duffy, Julien Hedquist, Matthew Avedon, Ivan, Christian Monzon and Alain Delon Jr. and our image has been shaped through the lenses of famous rock star Bryan Adams.

Today, we are happy to see that some of the most alluring influencers all over the world are carrying this legacy forth. The A-list includes influencers such as Darja Barannik, Janka Polliani, Zina Charkoplia, Emili Sindlev, Erik Forsgren, Aloe Blacc and Josefine HJ.

Made with care

Great design and transparent production are the heart of SAND Copenhagen. Therefore we have located SAND Design Studio in Como, North Italy, since almost all our items are produced here besides in Portugal. Como is world famous for its fabrics and long traditions for print and silk, and our local presence allows us to oversee every step in the production.

Many of the Como weavers and printers have become neighbors and friends and together we develop unique fabrics and patterns deeply rooted in the traditions of the area. SAND Design Studio is in one of the most beautiful places in Italy, a palazzo overlooking the Lake Como because we believe that the beauty of the surroundings influences the design process in a positive way. Here, we can combine the two worlds that make SAND Copenhagen outstanding: The modest Scandinavian style and the ever-inspiring Italian passion.

BETTER WORLD STRATEGY

At SAND Copenhagen, we operate only with suppliers and partners, who abide 100 % to our code of conduct and who are all ISO-certified, guaranteeing that they meet our high standards. As a family owned and run company, we are extremely aware of our corporate responsibility, and we constantly aim to reduce our impact on the environment as well as strengthen our position in regard of social and economic sustainability.

We believe that continuously working to improve the quality of our items, both in fabric, design, and production, will increase the lifespan of each item. Love it, wear it, pass it on.

In the design process we aim to create shapes, colors, and prints that work well for more than a season and can transcend seasons and trends, also to prolong the lifespan of each item. You can even upcycle or redo the items to further reduce you impact on the environment.

In all steps of the process from design idea to item we aim to use less of the natural resources and make smart solutions to reduce the environmental footprint. Being responsible lies deep in our DNA. We strive to provide our customers with only the finest garments, and to do so, we operate exclusively with partners and suppliers of the highest standard, many of whom we have worked with for a long time. Growing and developing together over time makes our relationships strong and our production transparent.

Social & Responsible

To make garments as exquisite as ours, we only work with highly skilled craftsmen, who make use of their experience and unparalleled craftsmanship in the production. By working mainly in the EU, we get to work with some of the best and most dedicated artisans who do their best to make every item from SAND Copenhagen unique.

By keeping our production, both of fabrics and of garments mainly in Italy and Portugal, we contribute to the continuous survival and prosperity of the Southern European textile industry, its workers, and its long history of fashion. An industry otherwise threatened due to many brands outsourcing their production to countries with significantly cheaper labor and non-transparent production facilities.

By sustaining the textile industry, we sustain the workers and their families in rural areas where labor can be hard to find, and we also keep the craftsmanship and knowledge passed on from generation to generation, alive.

Feel the Fabrics

If you have ever held an item from SAND Copenhagen in your hands you already know the delicate feel that comes from working with some of the best fabric suppliers. What you can’t feel, but still is nice to know, is that we use fabrics of strong longevity to increase the lifespan of every item. By doing so we wish to reduce waste and save natural resources. Also, we encourage you to pass on the items, when you have enjoyed them and let others enjoy them too. Upcycle, redo, resell – buy less, buy better.

We have a big heart for Italian fabrics, simply because they are among the best in the world: The hand, the flow, the surfaces, the colors. Yes, they are more expensive, but they are also produced close to the factories that make them into garments and so we don’t need to fly fabrics around the world but can produce everything locally. This saves on emissions and energy, but it also enables us to work with the same suppliers year after year, many of the them family-owned business like ours. There’s nothing more amazing than to visit the weavers and printers and explore their old archives of colors and patterns, this is the phase we treasure the most, this is where the heart beats a little faster. And this could not be done anywhere else in the world but in North Italy.
